The Eggun represent the spirits of the deceased ancestors or ancestors, understanding that the ancestors are the spirits of the deceased, these in most cases are the manifestations of disembodied santeros, aleyos and others who are consecrated to Oduduwa .
In the Yoruba religion, the dead must be honored before the orishas, since the Eggun are the spirits of the ancestors practicing the religion, that is, they include not only the spirits of relatives but also the dead Santeros majors and Babalawos , as well they are revered as spirits of life and death being the intermediaries between the living, the Orishas, and the spirits that assist the practitioners of religion with the concept that the dead (Eggun) go before the saints, since they are those who, in one way or another, are on both planes.
